The Porsche Mission X: A Vision of the Future
The Porsche brand has always been about honoring the past while creating new, innovative designs for the future. Nowhere is that more apparent than in their latest concept study for the new Porsche Mission X. This sleek, modern design offers a sneak peek into what sports cars could look like in the future. Here is everything you need to know about the Mission X:
Top Speed
The automaker unveiled the new design just in time for its 75th anniversary. Currently, Mission X is a concept study and not for sale. However, if it goes into production, the brand will aim to make it the fastest road-legal car around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Considering that the current record-holder is the Mercedes AMG with a lap time of 6:35.18, this is no easy feat.
“The Porsche Mission X is a technology beacon for the sports car of the future,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “It picks up the torch of iconic sports cars of decades past: like the 959, the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder before it, the Mission X provides critical impetus for the evolutionary development of future vehicle concepts.”
An Innovative Design
The Mission X is a compact hypercar, 177 inches long and 78.7 inches wide. The wheelbase is 107.4 inches, similar to the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder. The car has staggered tires for aerodynamic purposes, with 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the back. Next, the low-slung body is less than 47.2 inches tall, with a lightweight glass dome extending over the driver and passenger seats. The doors on the roof and sides are Le Mans-style, the same type of door used on the Porsche 917 racing car. Finally, the modernized Porsche crest makes its debut on the hood, steering wheel, and wheel centers. The concept car was painted in Rocket Metallic, a color designed specifically for the vehicle.
This new vehicle will have futuristic features to go with its ultra-modern look. The Mission X will have a power-to-weight ratio of roughly one hp per 2.2 pounds and a 900-volt system that will allow it to charge twice as fast as its frontrunner, the Taycan Turbo S. Continuing Porsche’s latest trend in its designs, the vehicle will have its brand name in lights on the rear. While charging, the “E” in Porsche will pulse. Unlike the car designs of the past, the Mission X will also have LED lights. During the day, only a slim part of the lights will be visible, but at night, they will pop up, making the headlights shine.
