The 991 Generation Of The 911 Comes To An End
Porsche is celebrating its 70th anniversary of making some of the world’s greatest sports cars. At the same time we celebrate this momentous occasion, we also celebrate the end of a generation. Recently, we witnessed a memorable moment in history of Porsche: The final model of the Porsche 991 generation of the 911 has rolled off the production line. The 991 generation has been the most comprehensively developed one of the 911 series to date. While we memorialize the generation’s close, our team here at Town Porsche realizes Porsche has even greater designs and features planned for the future and we early look onward. Let’s take a look at some of the 991 generation’s landmarks and what we have to look forward to with the 992 generation!
991 Generational Landmarks
The 991 generation has been the most successful for the 911 Series to date, with 233,540 units produced. Michael Steiner, Chief Research and Development Officer for Porsche AG, says this generation “has set new standards for performance, driveability, and efficiency.” Since its humble beginnings in 1948, Porsche designers have developed, tested, and produced some of the most modern of vehicle features. We offer an ode to the 991 generation and eagerly await the coming generation.
The Porsche brand stands for both tradition and innovation. It was a poignant moment when the last offspring of the 991 generation was released to the world. Fitting for the last of its time, the last 911 was a limited-edition 911 Speedster model. We will miss this “greatest generation” of the 911 series, but here at Town Porsche, we know the company is looking ahead to the implementation of even more progressive developments in the future. We look forward to continuing to provide the company’s latest offerings for area motorists who appreciate the best.
Progressive Advances in Design of Porsche’s 991 Generation
The 991 generation, launched in 2011 was one of the most momentous development steps in the history of the Porsche 911 series. Nearly 90% of all components were revised. Thanks to the innovative, aluminum-steel composite body, the new models could boast that they were lighter in weight than their predecessors. The new wheelbase was 100 mm longer than the one it replaced, therefore, could be equipped with an optional new roll stabilization system – Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). Lightweight magnesium bows, when closed, made it possible to achieve a new coupe-like curve of roof, with a silhouette that could be maintained even at high speeds. Not to mention this generation was the fastest yet, and most technologically advanced.
